2C30.10 • Heart Model
Photo Shows Demonstration Used at U.T. Austin
Instructions:
- A visual model of the human heart.
- Removable front wall shows pathways and chambers inside the heart.
Concepts Conveyed:
- The heart uses a balance of viscous and inertial fluids as well as contractions and its structure to generate the proper blood flow.
- Arteries can adapt to and change with the varying hemodynamic conditions.
- There is a gradient of flow lines of blood moving at different velocities at different locations in the tube, which results in laminar flow. This is due to wall stress where the blood flowing closest to the wall has to fight against friction, which decreases the velocity.
