Instructions / Notes:
- Demo Staff: This demo shows the cross section and operating principles of an air cooled two stroke Diesel engine, based on diesel cycle.
- Very high power Diesel engines used for ship propulsion are commonly two stroke engines.
- All engines between 400-900mm bore are two stroke engines.
- Rotate the hand crank at the back of the model in any direction to simulate the intake, compression and exhaust stages of the engine.
- A simulated spark plug uses a small LED lamp to indicate ignition triggered by air pressure.
- The air is sucked through spring loaded inlet valve when the pressure in the crankcase reduces due to upward motion of piston during compression stroke.
- During the expansion stroke the air in the crankcase is compressed.
- Near the end of the expansion stroke piston uncovers the exhaust ports and the cylinder pressure drops to atmospheric as the combustion product leave the cylinder.
