5D20.50 • Resistivity and Temperature: Thermistor

Instructions / Notes:

• Connect the thermistor in series with an ammeter and hobby battery.
• Warm the thermistor via body heat by holding it between two fingers. Observe the change in current due to the increase in temperature.
• Fill the square styrofoam container with liquid nitrogen.
• Submerge the thermistor in liquid nitrogen. Observe the change in current due to the decrease in temperature.
• When the demo is not in use, DISCONNECT the negative wire from the battery holder, as pictured below.

Demo Staff:

• The thermistor in LN₂ demonstration has its own dedicated ring stand - and - square styrofoam container.
• Unfortunately, the above items don't fit in the storage box that contains the micro-ammeter, a 1.5 volt battery holder and the thermistor .
• This dedicated ring stand fits the micro-ammeter.

Negative wire needs to be disconnected when the demo is not in use.
