Static Pressure: Pascal’s Law
Photo Shows the Apparatus Used at U.T. Austin
Concepts Conveyed:
- Vases filled with water at the same height will result in the same pressure reading.
- Vases filled with the same volume will not result in the same pressure reading.
Instructions / Notes:
- Screw one of the four vases onto the apparatus.
- Verify that the rubber release tube is clamped, and then add water.
- You will see that the pointer rises along the pressure chart (units: millipascal).
- Mark the height of the water with the metal pointer.
- Release the water into the empty beaker by pointing the rubber tube downward into the beaker and releasing the clamp.
- Repeat the steps with the other vase shapes.
Demo Staff:
- Fill one beaker with colored water, and leave the other beaker empty for water collection.
