Photos Show the Apparatus Used at U.T. Austin
Instructions / Notes:
- Wrap the cuff around the upper arm (bicep) with the nozzle pointing towards wrist, making sure the arm stays straight for the entire process for accurate results.
- Press start and it will begin measuring your blood pressure, should take about 1 minute before the results show up on screen. Stop turns the entire machine off!
Concepts Conveyed:
- The monitor shows two types of blood Pressure: systolic and Diastolic, as well as Pulse.
- Systolic is the pressure when the heart pushes blood out (top number on the right, labeled 'SYS').
- Diastolic is when the heart rests between beats (middle number on the right, labeled 'DIA').
- Pulse is your heart beats per minute (bottom number on the right, labeled 'PULSE').
- The pressure in the system transmits to all parts of the enclosed system, which is pumped higher than the systolic pressure, so it cuts off arterial blood flow, making the fluid pressure static - Pascal's Law.
